REUTERS/Roselle Chen Acquire Licensing RightsNEW YORK, Nov 13 (Reuters) - Electric air taxis could be transporting passengers from JFK Airport to downtown Manhattan by 2025 - on quiet, emissions-free journeys that take around seven minutes. Manufacturer Joby Aviation (JOBY.N) carried out an exhibition flight at the Downtown Manhattan Heliport in New York on Sunday, the city's first-ever electric air taxi flight and the first time Joby has flown in an urban setting. The idea is that travelers will book their trip, similar to a rideshare app. Reporting by Roselle Chen, Writing by Rosalba O'Brien; Editing by David GregorioOur Standards: The Thomson Reuters Trust Principles.

Joby intends to begin hiring "immediately" to stand up manufacturing of aircraft components at existing buildings at the Dayton site, Bevirt said. Construction of the new production facility will begin in 2024, with operations to start in 2025. Bevirt declined to comment on initial production rates and how much funding would be immediately allocated to construct the Dayton facility. The state of Ohio and several political organizations have offered up to $325 million in incentives and benefits to develop the Dayton site, Joby said.

WASHINGTON March 24 (Reuters) - Joby Aviation (JOBY.N), which is developing electrical aircraft to operate as air taxis, on Friday named former Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) head Michael Huerta to its board of directors. Joby is pushing to win FAA certification for its vertical take-off and landing aircraft ahead of starting planned commercial passenger service in 2025. Huerta served as FAA administrator from 2013 to 2018 after three years as deputy administrator. Joby CEO JoeBen Bevirt said Huerta's seat on both boards "will be invaluable as we prepare for commercial operations." The FAA in November issued airworthiness criteria for Joby to certify its Model JAS4-1 aircraft.

The world has long dreamed of a day when flying cars become part of daily life. Startups Joby, Archer, Vertical , Lilium and more are developing eVTOLs, electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, with the vision of making air taxis a reality. CNBC got an inside look at Joby Aviation, one of the eVTOL players with grand ambitions of not only building the aircraft but also operating an Uber-like air taxi business. Founded in 2009 in Santa Cruz, California, the company has received investments from Toyota , Delta Air Lines , Uber and the U.S. Department of Defense. Joby is currently manufacturing and performing flight tests at its pilot facility outside of Monterey in Marina, California.

REUTERS/Andrew KellyWASHINGTON, Oct 11 (Reuters) - Delta Air Lines (DAL.N) said Tuesday it invested $60 million in air taxi startup Joby Aviation (JOBY.N) for a 2% equity stake, in a partnership that will initially offer passengers air taxi transport to and from airports in New York and Los Angeles. Joby has said it plans to launch air taxi service in 2024. Delta does not plan, however, to operate Joby aircraft, Bastian said. He said he hopes at some point the air taxis will be able to land on the tarmac to speed journeys.
